Question: How often do I need to have my hot water boiler checked?
Answer: You should have your boiler checked at least once a year. It should be checked over and the pumps oiled if needed. The zone valves should be checked to see that they are opening and closing properly and the system should be purged to remove any air from the system.
Question: I can hear a lot of water noise in my registers. What causes that?
Answer: This noise is usually caused by air in the lines. The zones should be purged to get the air out of the water and then the noise will go away. Air can also cause an air lock, which will stop the flow of water in the registers. By purging the system, the hot water will flow freely and heat properly.
Question: My existing boiler is old, but it runs good and seems to heat well. My house is approximately 2000 sq. ft. The boiler is a 175,000 btu. input. Would a new boiler heat better and be more efficient?
Answer: Your old boiler is about 50 to 65% efficient and is over sized by quite a bit. In the old days when gas was cheap, bigger was better. With the high prices of gas today, the new 80%+ boilers sized down properly will heat very well and reduce your utility bills considerably.
